« Qu’il photographie des roches, un déchet, ou un papillon, Michel Monteaux s’emploie à révéler un processus d’unité, et à suivre un ensemble de métamorphoses… Tout est donc flux, présence, tissage, les éléments vivent ensemble, dans un équilibre général où la singularité de chacun consonne avec le tout d’une composition les accordant intimement.
Le choix du polaroid pour certaines images permet d’avoir de la même prise de vue, deux images au rendu différent. L’impression sur le polaroid est assez proche de la réalité visible. Le négatif de l’instantané révèle un aspect de l’image très différent et modulable. Ainsi au même instant la matière capte le même sujet de deux manières distinctes et aléatoires.
« J’interroge les liens unissant mystérieusement les êtres à leur environnement, proche ou lointain, et les ordres symboliques les rapprochant. » …l’artiste lève un espoir considérable : et si jusqu’à présent nous n’avions presque rien compris de notre inscription dans le monde, de ce qui fait apparaître et mouvoir les dix mille êtres ?
Michel Monteaux tente ainsi de constituer un ensemble harmonieux d’«images »hors catégories bien définies, proposant une place plus importante au mystère qu’au sujet en lui même. »

The choice of the polaroid for certain images allows to have from the same shot, two images with different rendering. The print on the polaroid is quite close to visible reality. The negative of the snapshot reveals a very different and flexible aspect of the image. So at the same moment the material captures the same subject in two distinct and random ways.

Michel Monteaux thus attempts to constitute a harmonious set of « images » outside well-defined categories, offering a more important place to the mystery than to the subject.”
